About

About Wild Tai Chi

Tai chi is at its most powerful and effective when practised in the Great Outdoors.  Here at Wild Tai Chi we use our local knowledge to offer a guiding and tuition service that will take you to the most beautiful tai chi spots in the Highlands of Scotland.

We also run a weekly indoor class in the Balloch Village Hall

Gavin Macfie runs Wild Tai Chi from his Inverness base. He has been practising Tai Chi since 1998 and exploring the Scottish Highlands all his life. He is a Registered Full Instructor Member of the Tai Chi Union for Great Britain.

Corporate Events

We specialise in Corporate Events and will tailor a program precisely to the needs of your group.

Get your conference delegates or employees ready for the day with a relaxing early morning indoor or outdoor Tai Chi Session, or unwind after a long day with an early evening relaxation  class.

Testimonials

“We approached Gavin to run two early morning sessions of Tai Chi, both for 50 guests. He was very efficient in his confirmation of our bookings and forwarding information to us. On arrival, he was well organised and ensured all guests were comfortable and enjoyed the session, at different abilities. Gavin was also not phased having to cope with our changing and unseasonal Highland weather and indoor and outdoor sessions! We certainly hope to work again with Gavin in the future.”

Cath Wright, Speyside Wildlife

“On behalf of the Sutherland Community Partnership and Scottish Natural Heritage, I would like to thank you for your excellent “introduction to Tai Chi” at the Loch Fleet National Nature Reserve last Saturday.  This was an excellent way to start off our Family Open Day and judging by  number of folk who took part and have subsequently given us great feedback, this is something we are going to have to consider repeating in the future.”

Ian Mitchell, Scottish Natural Heritage

Tours

We can arrange day trips to Scotland’s most beautiful Wild Tai Chi spots – sandy beaches, shimmering lochs, mountain summits and  roaring waterfalls.

Our day trips involve a half day (2 – 4 hours) or full day (6 – 8 hours)  exploring the Highlands. We will transport you by car or people carrier to our specially selected Tai Chi spots. These will be close to the road, accessed by no more than 30 minutes walk. We will endeavour to find you the best weather available through being flexible on the itinerary, though it is advisable to bring waterproofs just in case.

Tours start from Inverness.  Choose from one of our predefined itineraries below or pick and mix.

Sample Itineraries

Half-day tour: The Moray Riviera

Full day tour: The Northwest Tai Chi Explorer

Private: Backpacking Trips

A bit of effort is required to access the best spots, and these 2 – 3 day trips allow you to access the very best that Scotland has to offer. These are suitable for experienced backpackers. We can advise on the most appropriate equipment but you will be responsible for bringing your own gear and food. We will visit remote beaches and high summits. Weather conditions in Scotland can be severe even in the summer months so we keep these itineraries flexible until we know what the weather is doing to ensure that these trips are safe and enjoyable.

Inverness Classes

We love the outdoors but also run a regular indoor class in  the Balloch Village Hall on Monday nights between 8:30 and 9:30 PM.

The class focusses on  Cheng Man-Ch’ing’s 37 Move Short Form and Chi Kung.

New members are always welcome to join.

The class is suitable for beginners and those with prior experience.
